A former corporator of Shiv Sena had filed a petition against the BMC. After the hearing was held, the court reserved its judgement. The ruling was given on Monday. Accordingly, the population of 2011 will have to be considered. While forming the wards, the BMC made 236 wards instead of 227 wards as per the government order. While forming the wards, a population increase of 10 per cent had been considered. As per the law, the population is not assumed. Former corporators Ujjwal Keskar and Suhas Kulkarni said that the wards have to be formed based on the last census.

The PMC has considered a 10 per cent increase in population and formed wards of three members as per the government order after including the newly merged 23 villages. However, since this is not according to the law, the PMC will have to cancel this ward arrangement. The existing four member wards have been formed as per the 2011 census.

Ujjwal Keskar said that the civic administration will have to take into account the population in 23 villages in 2011 and set up four wards by considering the total population and the GR issued by the government.

Keskar said that as per the GR, four-member wards will have to be formed and there may be a maximum 166 wards. The area of the wards will also increase, he added.
