The dispute between Marathwada and Ahmednagar-Nashik has been stared over the water shortage. Only 33 percent of water stock is remaining in Jayakwadi dam, on which the four districts of Marathwada are dependent. The dams which are situated in the upward area (Ahmednagar-Nashik district area) have 79 to 88 percent of water stock.

According to the Equitable Water Distribution Act, it is mandatory to release water from above dam by taking a review on October 15. Godavari Marathwada Irrigation Development Corporation has reviewed the use and requirement of water and decided to fix the shortage of water in Jayakwadi. So, it has been decided to release the seven TMC of water in the Jayakwadi dam.

The people representatives and farmers from Ahmednagar-Nashik district become aggressive on water distributing issue. Whereas, the leaders and farmers from Marathwada are demanding the release of water due to the drought condition. So, the dispute has been started in between two regions because of the water issue.

The Maharashtra Water Resources Regulatory Authority told to release the water, in a meeting held in Mumbai on Monday. Executive Director of Godavari Marathwada Irrigation Development Corporation Ajay Kohirkar ordered the office to release the water on Tuesday morning. According to that, water will be released in two days. But the question of law and order will arise in protest of Ahmednagar-Nashik.

Petition filed

BJP’s Gopal Patil challenged the water allocation policy by submitting a petition in the Bombay High Court against the decision to release water in the Jayakwadi dam. He objected that the Nashik people’s opinion did not consider while taking the decision on sharing of water.
