‘Was the Second Regiment Of the Army Chewing Tobacco During the China Border Crisis?’ Shiv Sena Targets PM Modi

Mumbai: Shiv Sena accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of using the bravery shown by Indian soldiers in the Galvan Valley skirmish for the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections. The main party of the coalition government in Maharashtra said that Modi is playing ethnic and regional cards by referring to a special military regiment involved in a clash with Chinese troops on the Line of Actual Control (LAC) on 15 June.

Shiv Sena mouthpiece ‘Saamana’ stated this in its editorial, referring to Modi’s statement on the valor of the Bihar regiment in the Galvan Valley conflict. The Marathi daily asked, “When the country was facing a crisis on the border, were the Mahars, Marathas, Rajputs, Sikhs, Gorkhas, Dogra regiments sitting on the borders chewing tobacco?”

“Yesterday, CRPF jawan Sunil Kale was killed in an encounter with terrorists in Pulwama.” Caste and region were given importance in the Indian Army in view of the upcoming election.” In an editorial, the former BJP ally opposed such politics.

“Such politics is a disease that is more deadly than the coronavirus,” the editorial said. Bihar assembly elections are due later this year. The BJP is included in the ruling coalition there.

Raut again criticized the PM for questioning the media after writing the editorial.
