A historic decision was taken by Supreme Court on section 377 of Indian Penal Code giving freedom to the LGBT community to chose their partners according to their wish irrespective of sex.

According to verdict given by Supreme Court, Gay sex is no more an offense.  Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) community was fighting for their rights, from a long time, and finally, their fight came to an end as SC gave its final decision that consensual adult gay sex is not crime anymore.

LGBT community has always been deprived of their rights in society and here is a couple which has faced hurdles in life and love has finally won over. Samir Samudra and Amit Gokhale is such Maharashtrian Gay couple who have faced issues in society and dealt with people pointing fingers ion them.

Let’s know about Samir Samudra and Amit Gokhale:

Samir Samudra and Amit Gokhale is a Maharashtra based Gay couple. Both of them are engineers and have degree of MBA. They are in a live-in-relationship since fifteen years. They got married in the United States of America as in past before the judgment they were not permitted for homosexual marriage in India. They lived in Colombia as an open married gay couple. They returned to India last year.

Now they are living in Pune city of Maharashtra. They have faced many hardships in their relationship dealing with social issues. They found difficulties finding a home to stay. There were so much prejudices and misconceptions about them in society that living for them became difficult, people looked at them as they were criminals.

After acknowledging today’s decision of Supreme Court, both of them welcomed the decision happily and became very emotional. Samir Samudra said, “I am very happy, Even I don’t have words to express my feelings, now after this historical decision after long years LBGT community got a sigh of relief.”

He added, “Now everyone will get equal rights as an Indian citizen. From my point of view, it is the start of a new era. We have always tried to communicate to people that there is nothing wrong in relationship of same gender if they loves each other and tried to set an example for them. Now, itsand now it becomes legal. Now we can live freely in society and tell people that I love Amit.”

He further said that “We married in USA but we always had a love for our country, we stayed abroad as it was not acceptable by our society and our laws did not support us being in a relationship.  But now I can consider myself as a citizen who will be treated equally like others.”

Amit Gokhale said, “Now we don’t have to prove that our love is unique. We don’t have to hide our relationship and our marriage from anyone. Finally, we can proudly tell it to everyone openly without any shame. Most of the time, people used to put question marks on our marriage, but, now we can tell people that, yes, we are married. I think there is nothing that gives me more pleasure than that.”

They also expressed that, “there is a strong need to create awareness on this topic in society and people like us should be treated normally like ordinary people. Now, after this decision, people need to talk about their relationships openly without hiding.”

Adding to that, he said, “There are many children and youth in Indian families like us, their parents should support them and talk to them about it freely so that they can grow in a free and fair environment.”
