Smriti Irani speaks on Sabrimala verdict asks: ‘Will you carry napkin seeped with menstrual blood to friend’s house?’

Nation-wide protests are being carried out on the verdict of Supreme Court on Sabrimala verdict according to which women below 50 years of age or menstruating women can also enter the Sabrimala temple.

Union Minister Smriti Irani on Tuesday gave a statement saying that right to pray does not mean right to desecrate.

Several youngsters and women of all ages came on the streets to protest against the Supreme court approving menstruating women to enter the temple.They are demanding to review the judgement and that the decision of SC is disrespecting their Lord Ayyappa and is hurting their sentiments and beliefs.

Meanwhile Smriti Irani has given a statement in against of the verdict of SC said, “I am nobody to speak on SC verdict as I’m a serving cabinet minister. Would you take sanitary napkins seeped in menstrual blood to a friend’s home? No. Why take them into house of God? That is the difference. I have the right to pray, but no right to desecrate. That is the difference that we need to recognize and respect.” Irani said.

She made this statement at a conference “Young Thinkers” organised by the British High Commission and the Observer Research Foundation.

“I am a practicing Hindu married to a Zoroastrian. I have ensured that both my kids are practicing Zoroastrians, who can go the fire temple and pray”, she said.

She recalled when she was prohibited to enter the fire temple and was with her new born stood outside the temple.

On September 28, a five-judge constitution bench of Supreme Court and former chief justice Dipak Misra, removed the ban on entry of menstruating women into the temple.

On which some women showed their happiness and appreciated the decision, on the contrary some started agitation against the verdict which is continued.
