Retail Policy: Relief to unemployed; 30 lakh jobs to be generated in 4 years

New Delhi: Shashwat Goenka, chairman of the National Committee at the CII India Retail Summit-2020 said that national retail policy can revive the sector. This will create 30 lakh employment opportunities in the country by 2024. He said that he will be able to register strong growth in the coming years. Goenka is also the head of RP-Sanjeev Goenka Group (Retail & FMCG). According to industry estimates, five million people are employed in the organized retail sector of the country.

The government should bring a strong retail policy in the future when the industry rises from its bottom line. In such a time, to speed up the process of reform, a new and emerging model needs to be discussed. The industry has not yet been able to recover from the losses caused by the lack of demand. In such a situation, active steps will be required to build the trust of consumers. Under the retail sector, people believe that the government should bring a strong retail policy.

He said that to overcome the challenges and hurdles in various formats of this sector, the people of the retail sector under CII believe that the government should bring a strong retail policy. Goenka said that today is more favorable than ever before with national retail policy.

There is a need to create an environment. The government can increase the sector’s growth by bringing a strong retail policy. This could create 30 lakh additional employment opportunities by 2024. Apart from this, indirect employment opportunities can also be created in these related areas.
Investment of Rs 6,500 cores will generate 2-3 lakh additional jobs-
He said that research shows that two to three lakh additional jobs can be created by investing only Rs 6,500 crore in basic infrastructures like retail, warehouse and cold storage, etc. In the same program, Anil Aggarwal, Joint Secretary, Department of Industry, and Internal Trade Promotion (DPIIT), told that the government is working on the retail policy.
