Pune: Young Woman Assaulted on NIBM Road; Accused Threatened Suicide if Marriage Refused

Pune: On NIBM Road, Kondhwa Khurd, a young woman faced a terrifying ordeal at the hands of a man who relentlessly pursued her and resorted to violence. The incident, which occurred on Wednesday evening around 6:45 p.m., has sparked outrage, leading to the registration of a case by the Kondhwa police against the accused.

The victim, a 24-year-old residing in Mohamadwadi, bravely stepped forward to report the harrowing encounter at the Kondhwa police station on Thursday. Identified as Santosh Guchappa Kamble, a 23-year-old resident of Mohamadwadi, Pune, the accused now faces charges under sections IPC 354, IPC 354d , IPC 323 , IPC 504, and IPC 506.

According to the police investigation, the accused and the victim shared a prior acquaintance, with Kamble persistently pursuing the young woman. Allegedly, he subjected her to relentless mental pressure, demanding marriage and resorting to threats of self-harm if his proposal was rebuffed.

On Wednesday evening, as the victim made her way home after meeting a friend from Somji village, she encountered Kamble on the road. What began as a confrontation swiftly escalated into a violent assault, with Kamble verbally abusing her and shattering her mobile phone. The situation turned dire as he proceeded to physically assault her, kicking her in the chest and inflicting injuries.

In her statement to the police, the victim detailed the traumatic experience, saying the accused assaulted her for meeting her friend without his permission. He also attempted to molest the girl, causing embarrassment to her.

The Kondhwa police, led by Police Sub-Inspector Birajdar, have launched a comprehensive investigation into the matter.
