Pune Water Supply | Extended Water Outage Raises Concerns; Residents Left High and Dry

Pune : Pune Water Supply | Citizens in certain areas of the city have been grappling with a prolonged water shutdown, which has now extended to five days, causing significant inconvenience and distress. The Municipal Corporation had initially announced a water supply halt for maintenance work at Vadgaon Jalkendra and Rajiv Gandhi Pumping. However, even after the scheduled maintenance period, the water supply has not been restored, leaving residents frustrated and struggling to meet their basic water needs.

In Ward No. 38, partial water supply was eventually restored on the fifth day, but neighboring areas such as Hemi Park, Pawan Park, Yashodhan Society, and Ideal Park in Ward No. 41 continued to face severe water scarcity. Residents of these areas have been compelled to purchase water from alternative sources, further burdening their already stretched resources. Despite constant attempts to contact the concerned authorities, including Vidnyan Gaikwad, the Branch Engineer of Ward No. 41, citizens have been met with silence and lack of response, exacerbating their predicament.

The recurring issue of extended water shutdowns has raised questions about the purpose behind these closures. Many residents suspect that the shutdowns are not solely for maintenance purposes but rather an intentional disruption of the water supply. Instead of providing relief and facilitating smooth water distribution, these closures have become a source of immense trouble for citizens, with no end in sight.

Local citizen Vinayak Raikar highlighted the administration’s failure to communicate the actual purpose and duration of these shutdowns, expressing concern that citizens are being subjected to unnecessary hardship. The lack of accountability and responsiveness from the authorities has only deepened the frustration and anguish experienced by residents who have been enduring days without access to essential water services.

In response to the situation, Kashinath Gangurde, the Executive Engineer of the Swargate Division Water Supply, assured citizens that the water supply would be restored from Saturday. He acknowledged the need for prompt resolution of the issues affecting the Katraj and Kondhwa areas and pledged to take swift action to rectify the situation.

However, residents like Vinay Hublikar from Yashodhan Society continue to face uncertainty and desperation as they struggle to obtain clear answers or any indication of when their water supply will be reinstated.
