Pune Satara Highway | Pune-Satara Waterlogged Woes: Service Road Submerged, Traffic Disrupted

Khed Shivapur : Pune Satara Highway | a bustling locality near Pune, is facing significant challenges due to heavy waterlogging on the Veluphata to Kondhapur Phata Shindewadi service road. The recent onset of monsoon rains on the 24th and 25th has inundated the area, causing severe disruptions to traffic flow, inconveniencing motorists, and posing risks to road safety.

The service roads, including the vital Pune-Satara main road, have been submerged under a deluge of water, creating obstacles for commuters and requiring considerable effort to navigate through. At Khed Shivapur, the service road was completely blocked due to the incessant rain that began on Saturday, the 24th. Several vehicle owners attempting to cross the waterlogged road found themselves stuck and had to be assisted in getting their vehicles moving again.

Prior to the monsoon season, the responsibility to repair and clean the drains on the service roads rested with the National Highway Authority and the contractors at the Khed Shivapur toll booth. However, it seems that this crucial maintenance work was overlooked, leading to the unfortunate situation where roads between Shindewadi and the Khed-Shivapur toll plaza, as well as the Nasrapur area, became waterlogged.

Apart from causing inconvenience, the excessive water poses a significant risk of accidents and road hazards. Concerned citizens in the area are now demanding that the sewerage works on these service roads be completed and the drains thoroughly cleaned to prevent further waterlogging issues. However, when approached regarding this persistent problem, the authorities’ responses have been mixed, adding to the frustration of the affected residents.

Aslam Khatib, Assistant Inspector of Police at the Highway Department, expressed his disappointment, stating, “Despite repeated notices, the work on this road is incomplete, leading to waterlogging on the service road along with the main road.”

On the other hand, Rakesh Koli, an engineer from the Highways Authority, attributed the waterlogging issue to drains being blocked by hoteliers near the highway. He assured the public that efforts were underway to rectify the situation and restore smooth traffic flow.

Akshada Bandehawaldar, the Sarpanch of Sriramnagar, revealed that despite being notified repeatedly, the toll administration seemed unresponsive. When approached about the waterlogging problem, a toll official reportedly claimed that the water was not their responsibility to clean.

These conflicting statements from authorities only serve to deepen the residents’ concerns and intensify their demand for prompt action to address the waterlogging issue. It is crucial that the relevant authorities collaborate and take immediate steps to resolve the drainage problems on the service roads. Neglecting this essential maintenance work not only disrupts daily life for commuters but also puts their safety at risk.
