Pune Rains | First spell of heavy rains exposes shallow claims of PMC

Pune : NpNews24 Online  –  Pune Rains | The claims of the Pune Municipal Corporation about carrying out cleaning of nalas, stormwater drains and chambers were exposed during the first heavy rain which lashed the city on Sunday. There was waterlogging at many places and water accumulated in potholes in some areas. (Pune Rains)

The civic body carries out the work of cleaning of nalas and water bodies before the monsoon every year. It also cleans stormwater drains, monsoon chambers and culverts. This year, these works were undertaken from April. However, the deadline of these works was extended. On June 15, Municipal Commissioner Vikram Kumar made claims that the works of cleaning of nalas had been completed. However, these claims were exposed during the first rains on Sunday.

At many places, the flow of water could not take place and chambers and stormwater drains were choked. There were complaints that the water flowed from the chambers on the streets. Due to the Pune Metro works, water was accumulated at many places. Due to dug up roads in some areas and piled up garbage, there was waterlogging in some areas. Pedestrians were also inconvenienced due to accumulation of water on footpaths.
