Pune: PMC employees should clean up grounds in city, demands sports committee member Praveen Chorbele

Pune: Corporator Praveen Chorbele, member of the PMC Sports Committee has requested the Municipal Commissioner to deploy the civic-body employees to clean and maintain the grounds in the city. Due to the lockdown and other budgetary constraints, the contractors managing these grounds have not been paid and hence there is a huge amount of grass growing on these grounds.

Playgrounds like Nehru Stadium and Taljai are located in the heart of the city. The maintenance of these grounds was with some contractors. However, during the lockdown, the accounts of these contractors have not been settled. As a result they are unable to maintain the condition of these grounds. Thus, a huge amount of yellow grass has grown at the grounds. Similarly, dust and garbage has accumulated everywhere in the audience stand of the ground.

Chorbele said, “Thousands of Ranji and National players have practiced on these grounds before they went to state or national level sports. However, due to the negligence during lockdown the condition of these grounds has deteriorated. The windows are broken. Thus, though the Pune Municipal Corporation has spent lakhs of rupees on the ground, it seems of no use as there is no maintenance.”
