Pune News | Mohan Date of Date Panchang clarifies on muhurt for installing Ganesh idol

Pune : NpNews24 Online -Pune News | Traditional panchangs or almanacs have different methods to calculate time. So, a discrepancy in exact dates of some festivals can happen. In such cases, people get confused ahead of major festivals. One should ignore such small differences. Ganesh Chaturthi or the first day of the Ganesh festival falls on September 19. Devotees should install the idol on that day only, said Date Panchang publisher Mohan Date.(v)

 

He said Ganesh Chaturthi should be observed on September 19 in Maharashtra, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Delhi, Punjab, Andhra Pradesh, Karnatak and Tamil Nadu.

 

People are confused as some almanacs have stated that it falls on September 18. Date has cleared the doubt and has insisted that Ganesh Chaturthi should be observed on September 19. He said, “Trutiya, the traditional day before Chaturthi, ends at 12.40 pm on September 18 while Chaturthi ends at 1.45 pm on September 19.”

 

“Therefore, as per the traditional rules, since Chaturthi lasts till afternoon on Tuesday (Sept 19), Ganesh Chaturthi will be observed on Tuesday only. A similar situation had arisen on August 26, 1998. Then the same method was followed. According to the almanacs, including the one published by the Central Government, Shri Swami Samarth Panchang, Nirnaysagar, Rajandekar Panchang, Date Panchang, the Ganesh idol installation should take place on September 19 (Tuesday).
