Pune News | Hospitals and Ambulance Drivers Directed to Follow New Guidelines for Accident Victims’ Treatment

Pune : Pune News | A new directive has been issued by Naib Tehsildar Sachin Wagh of Ambegaon taluka, emphasizing that accident victims should first be admitted to the nearest Sub-District Hospital, Rural Hospital, or Primary Health Center by ambulance drivers. Additionally, private hospital operators are required to prominently display the treatment rates on their premises.

The decision came after a recent incident in which accident victims were admitted to a private hospital, resulting in a hefty bill of over five and a half lakh rupees for one patient. Recognizing the financial burden this poses for low-income individuals, Surekha Nighot, Chief of Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray Party’s Ambegaon Taluka Mahila Aghadi, raised concerns about the affordability of such medical expenses.

To address this issue, Dr. Sanjay Bhawari, Medical Officer at Manchar Rural Hospital, highlighted that financial assistance is available through the Hindu Hridaysamrath Balasaheb Thackeray Aarogya Yojana and the Mahatma Phule Jan Arogya Yojana. These schemes provide financial support to eligible patients, with thirty thousand rupees granted from the former and three and a half lakh rupees from the latter.

Dr. Tushar Pawar, Taluka Medical Officer at Manchar Upazila Hospital, cautioned ambulance drivers to prioritize government hospitals for admitting accident victims. However, if relatives request a transfer, it can be considered on a case-by-case basis. Dr. Pawar also stressed the importance of accurate registration and warned that registration could be canceled if any discrepancies or complaints arise during the treatment process.

To ensure transparency and accountability, a vigilance committee will be formed to address patient complaints and monitor the training and competency of hospital staff. Regular reviews and inspections will be conducted with the involvement of the patient welfare committee members.

The implementation of these new guidelines aims to protect accident victims and ensure they receive appropriate care without facing exorbitant medical bills. The authorities are determined to promote public awareness about the available financial support schemes and encourage adherence to the established protocols
