Pune News | Lonavala Witnesses Record Rainfall, But Concerns Persist over Decreased Seasonal Rainfall

Pune News | Lonavala, a popular tourist town nestled in the Sahyadri mountains, has experienced unprecedented rainfall for the second consecutive day, resulting in the highest recorded rainfall of the season. Over the past 24 hours alone, Lonavala received 220 mm of rain, with a total of 434 minutes of rain recorded over a span of 48 hours. However, despite this recent deluge, the overall rainfall in Lonavala this year has been lower compared to the previous year.

Last year, by this time, Lonavala had received a staggering 2592 mm of rain. In stark contrast, the cumulative rainfall for this year stands at 1744 mm. While the two days of continuous rainfall have set a new record for the season, concerns have emerged due to the overall decrease in rainfall when compared to the previous year.

The heavy downpour has led to overflowing rivers and streams, including the popular Bhushi Dam, a favored spot for both locals and tourists alike. Visitors to the dam are treated to a mesmerizing sight as numerous cascading waterfalls adorn the Sahyadri mountains.

Lonavala’s residents and tourists have expressed a mixture of awe and apprehension over the contrasting weather patterns. While the recent rainfall has replenished water sources and provided a picturesque spectacle, the lower overall rainfall this season has caused some unease. The decreased rainfall can have implications for agricultural activities, water availability, and the overall ecosystem of the region.
