Pune News | Delhi Obstructing Purandar Airport Development, Pune Projects Face Delays

Pune : Pune News |  The proposed international airport at Purandar has hit a roadblock due to delays from the Delhi authorities. It has been revealed that the proposal, which was submitted five months ago, is still gathering dust. The state government’s ongoing political games have been causing hurdles for various projects in Maharashtra, particularly in Pune. The development of the Purandar Airport and the construction of the ring road have been put on hold due to this bureaucratic stalemate. While some projects are affected by a lack of funds, others are caught in a web of indecision.

The Maharashtra Airport Development Company (MADC) has completed all the necessary paperwork for land acquisition for the airport. The maps of the targeted lands, group numbers, refund proposals, and details of affected families have been meticulously collected. However, due to the lack of a decision from Delhi, the airport’s plans are currently grounded.

Approximately 2,832 hectares of land in seven villages, namely Pargaon, Khanwadi, Munjwadi, Ekhatpur, Kumbharvalan, Vanpuri, and Udachi Wadi, are to be acquired for the airport. Land acquisition officers have been appointed for each village under the sub-collector’s jurisdiction. Now, the focus is on whether the project’s location will be changed or if it will proceed at the same site.

Following a change in state power, the Shinde-Fadnavis government decided to construct the airport at the original site in Purandar. The land acquisition process was entrusted to the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC). The district administration and MADC submitted all the required documents, maps, and detailed action plans to MIDC.

The only remaining step was to obtain the land acquisition notification for the airport. However, MIDC re-evaluated the documents and found discrepancies, resulting in a detailed report being sent to the High Authority Committee for approval. Unfortunately, the committee identified further errors, leading to the conclusion that the land acquisition notification for the airport will face further delays.

The state government has yet to cancel the notification issued by MADC in 2018, which was based on the Urban Development Department’s orders. Without canceling this existing notification, a new one cannot be issued. Despite several meetings between the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister regarding the new notification, no decision has been made concerning the cancellation. As a result, the development of the Purandar airport has come to a standstill.

This bureaucratic impasse has caused frustration among stakeholders and the public alike. The long-awaited Purandar Airport, which holds immense potential for economic growth and connectivity in the region, remains in limbo.
