Pune News | Controversy Looms Over Inclusion of Village Employees in Pune Municipal Corporation

Pune: Pune News | A significant controversy has arisen over the inclusion of employees from 23 villages into the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC). It has come to light that, despite nearly ten months passing since the decision, the regional offices responsible for the administration of the villages have failed to retrieve essential documents . As a result, the work concerning these employees has come to a grinding halt, causing frustration and uncertainty.

The inclusion of 23 villages into the municipality in 2021 led to the transfer of the management of these villages under the control of the Municipal Corporation. Consequently, the process of absorbing employees from the Gram Panchayats into the Municipality was initiated. The Municipal Corporation incorporated the workers who had joined the Gram Panchayats a year prior to the inclusion of the villages. However, employees who joined subsequently were not included, leading to widespread discontent and public outcry. Political parties also rallied in support of these employees, demanding they be retained.

In response to the mounting pressure, the Municipal Corporation took the initiative and sent a letter to the Zilla Parishad, urging them to provide a final list of employees in this matter. Consequently, the Divisional Commissioner appointed an inquiry committee to look into the matter. The committee requested the Municipal Corporation to furnish the original records of employees in all 23 villages, including the records previously held by the Gram Panchayats. After careful examination, the committee reported that approximately 658 employees in 17 out of the 23 villages were identified as bogus, leading to their exclusion from the Municipal Corporation’s workforce.

Despite this development, the original records of the villages, which were handed over to the committee, remain unclaimed in the office of the Divisional Commissioner. Astonishingly, despite four letters being sent to the Municipal Corporation, the regional offices responsible for the administration of the villages have failed to retrieve these documents. The delay in securing these records has further exacerbated the situation and caused uncertainty among the affected employees.

The ongoing controversy has sparked concern among the affected employees, who await a resolution from the Municipal Corporation. The delay in addressing this matter not only affects the livelihoods of the concerned workers but also hinders the effective functioning of the Municipality. It is crucial for the authorities to expedite the process and take the necessary steps to rectify the situation promptly.
