Pune Lok Sabha By-Election | Pune BJP MP Girish Bapat’s Demise Raises Questions about Lok Sabha By-Election

Pune : NpNews24 Online  –  Pune Lok Sabha By-Election | The unfortunate demise of Pune BJP MP Girish Bapat on March 29 has left a vacant seat in the constituency. However, despite more than three months passing since his passing, no announcement has been made regarding the by-election for this seat, leaving citizens wondering about the future of the Pune Lok Sabha.

Meanwhile, the Lok Sabha’s tenure is approaching ten months. This raises the question of whether there will be a Lok Sabha election in Pune or not, a query that remains unanswered.

Notably, the Kasba Assembly by-election took place a few months ago, with the Mahavikas Aghadi emerging victorious. Although Kasba Peth was previously a BJP stronghold, no BJP candidate secured a win in this election. Following the Mahavikas Aghadi’s success, preparations for the Pune Lok Sabha by-election began, with Congress and NCP expressing their interest and BJP aspirants making preparations. Banners displaying future MPs from these three parties were put up. However, uncertainty surrounds the occurrence of this election. Political experts are now opining that the likelihood of this election happening is slim, indicating that Pune Lok Sabha may face a contest during the general elections of 2024.

Avoiding By-Elections

The Lok Sabha has a tenure of ten months remaining, and it may take an additional month for the election process to be announced and conducted. Consequently, the newly elected MP of Pune Lok Sabha would only have seven to eight months in office. The possibility of avoiding this by-election is raising doubts. Additionally, following the defeat in the Kasba Peth by-election, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has taken cautious steps and is currently focusing on preparing for the 2024 Lok Sabha general elections. Therefore, there is a possibility of the by-election and general elections taking place simultaneously.
