Pune Crime News | Two arrested by Swargate police for firing at journalist; Goods worth ₹2 lakh seized

PUNE : Pune Crime News | An incident of a suburban reporter of a newspaper being shot at had taken place in Maharshi Nagar in the limits of Swargate police station. The incident took place on June 11 (Sunday) at 9 pm. The Swargate police have arrested the accused. They have apprehended four minor boys and arrested two people. Goods worth ₹2.25 lakh have been recovered from them. Preliminary investigation has proved that the crime was committed after taking a ‘supari.’

 

The arrested accused have been identified as Prathamesh alias Shambhu Dhananjay Tonde (20), a resident of Dattawadi and Abhishek Shivaji Rokde (22), a resident of Nanded village. Their four minor accomplices have been apprehended. A country-made pistol, live cartridge, three sickles, four two-wheelers and three mobiles totaling ₹2.25 lakh have been seized.

 

The complainants were going home on two-wheelers on May 27 at 7 pm when five unidentified persons travelling on two-wheelers stopped them and threw chilli powder on their body and charged at them carrying sickles. The complainants ran away to save their lives. On June 11 (Sunday), when the complainants had reached near their homes, five people travelling on mopeds chased them and opened fire. Since complainants bent down, they dodged the bullets. An FIR had been registered at the Swargate police station.

 

The accused had worn a mask and tied a handkerchief on their face and worn caps. The CCTV recorded the attack carried out at night but they could not be identified. The police examined 100 to 120 CCTV footage. The police came to know that the accused were going to visit Ranjangaon. Two teams of police were formed and a team was sent to Ranjangaon and another team was sent to Dhayari. The police came to know that the accused were waiting at Perene Phata, Lonikand.
The police laid a trap at Perne Phata Lonikand and found that two persons were moving about in a suspicious manner. The accused tried to run away but the police chased them and arrested them. When they were questioned, they admitted committing the crime with the help of their accomplices. A police team searched for their accomplices in Dhayari and Nandedgaon and apprehended them. When they were questioned, they admitted being involved in the crime.

 

Preliminary investigation has proved that the crime had taken place after taking a contract (supari) over a financial dispute about land transaction. The accused are notorious criminals. It was risky to arrest these criminals as they were moving about carrying sharp weapons. However, the police managed to apprehend them.

 

The action was taken by the then Senior PI Ashok Indalkar, Senior PI Sunil Jhavre, PI Somnath Jadhav, API Prashant Sande, PSI Ashok Yewle, policeman Mukund Taru, Somnath Kamble, Shiva Gaikwad, Feroz Shaikh, Ramesh Chavan, Sandeep Ghule, Anees Shaikh, Deepak Khendad, Sujay Pawar and Pravin Godse under the guidance of CP Retesh Kumaarr, Joint Cp Sandeep Karnik, Addl CP Pravin Kumar Patil, DCP Smartana Patil, ACP Narayan Shirgaonkar.
