Former chairperson of Alandi Municipal Council Vaijayanta Umargekar arrested with husband and son for daughter-in-law’s suicide
Pune : NpNews24 Online – Pune Crime | Former chairperson of Alandi Municipal Council Vaijayanta Umargekar’s daughter-in-law had committed suicide at her residence in Alandi on Sunday at 8 pm. In this connection, Vaijayanta Umargekar, her husband and son have been arrested. The deceased has been identified as Priyanka Abhishek Umargekar (29). Priyanka’s father Anil Gholap had lodged a complaint at the Alandi police station. (Pune Crime)
Priyanka was the daughter of former corporator of PCMC Kamal Gholap. Priyanka’s marriage with Abhishek Umargekar had taken place in November and Priyanka committed suicide within a couple of months. It has been alleged that Priyanka was harassed by Vaijayanta Umargekar and her husband Ashok Umargekar (60). Their son Abhishek (27) had supported them.
At the time of the marriage, the Gholap family had presented a swanky car to Abhishek and the wedding was held on a grand scale in Raver. Priyanka’s harassment started three months after marriage.
After marriage, Priyanka’s in-laws told her to get furniture and other goods from her parents’ house. They were physically and mentally harassing Priyanka. They were also demanding dowry. Priyanka, who was fed up with the harassment, committed suicide, her family members have alleged. The Alandi police have arrested the three accused.
There was an argument between Priyanka and Abhishek on Sunday (July 10) at 8 pm. Later, Priyanka went to the bedroom and hanged herself. The police carried out a panchnama and sent the body for post-mortem to YCMH. After the post-mortem, it was confirmed that Priyanka Umaregakar had committed suicide.
