Crook cheats senior citizen, decamps with her bag containing ornaments

Pune : NpNews24 Online Pune Crime | A thief robbed a senior citizen of her ornaments worth two lakhs by telling her that he knew her son and one can get money from the postal department by showing them gold ornaments under a new scheme. The incident happened at the City Post premises at 1.30 pm on Saturday. (Pune Crime)

 

A 68-year-old woman resident of Ravivar Peth has lodged a complaint at the Faraskhana police station. According to the police, when the woman was walking on the road, a person came near her. He told her that he knew her son and informed her about a new scheme in the postal department. He told her that one can get money by showing ornaments. He said he had helped many people to get money and will help her too.

 

The woman trusted him and put 50 gm ornaments worth Rs two lakh in a bag and she came to the City Post office with her seven-year-old grandson.

 

The man told her that she will have to get a photocopy of her Aadhaar card. She gave the bag containing ornaments to her grandson and went out to get a photocopy. The man told the boy that he would show the ornaments to the officials and decamped with the bag, When the woman returned with the photo copy, she realised what had happened.

 

Since the man was wearing a mask, the woman could not identify him. She trusted him as he knew her son.
