Rasta Peth new vegetable market: PMC takes back land in its possession

Pune : NpNews24 OnlinePune Corporation | The decks have been cleared for the new vegetable market being built in Rasta Peth by the Pune Municipal Corporation and the construction located in the area has been removed by the civic body. The civic body took action after the suggestions made by the court and the special powers available to the civic chief and has taken control of the area.

The old vegetable market of the PMC is located in Rasta Peth and it has given shops on rent. In this place, a new and modern vegetable market is going to be built. The project will be implemented on Build Operate Transfer basis and a proposal was passed to this effect in 2011. However, 10 shopkeepers had opposed the move by raising objections.

A case was filed in the court. Since some people had opposed the project, it was pending for a long time. Since a new market was going to be constructed, space had to be left for parking, staircase and lift and shopkeepers had been offered shops measuring seven feet instead of nine sq feet. Since, the shopkeepers had opposed the project, the project was languishing.

The land belongs to the PMC and it has given it on rent. The civic body wants to construct a new market and it had sent a notice to all shopkeepers because it wanted to take the land in its possession. The court had said that a proper process should be implemented while taking the land back in its possession.

The action was taken after orders from the civic chief and as per the court’s instructions, civic officials said. They added that the shopkeepers will be rehabilitated temporarily.
