Pune ACB News | Municipal Corruption Exposed: Rising Instances of Bribery in Pune Uncovered

Pune : Pune ACB News |  Over the past few years, the municipal corporation has witnessed a concerning rise in bribery incidents. This trend has resulted in the apprehension of 22 officers and employees by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) since 2018. The Pune Anti-Corruption Bureau covers five districts, including Pune, Satara, Sangli, Kolhapur, and Solapur.

Among these districts, Pune consistently records the highest number of bribery cases each year. With two municipal corporations and numerous state government offices and police departments, Pune district serves as a hotbed for such illicit activities. The ACB’s data reveals that the revenue and police departments are frequently involved in actions against bribe takers in the district, with the municipal corporations closely following.

In a recent incident, an employee of the Chaturshringi water supply depatment was arrested by the ACB for accepting a bribe. This comes shortly after another employee from the health department was caught in the ACB’s net for the same offense. These instances provide concrete evidence that corruption is widespread within the municipal corporation.

In 2018, five municipal employees were caught red-handed while accepting bribes. Due to the subsequent disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, only three employees were apprehended in 2019-20. However, in 2021 and 2022, the numbers increased to six employees in each year. So far in the current year, action has been taken against three employees involved in bribery.
