Police will now provide security to inter-caste married couples

Mumbai : NpNews24 Online  – Inter Caste Marriage | The self-esteem and pride of the castes in the people have not gone yet, and those who do inter-caste marriages have to face the wrath of society. Often such couples are also killed. But now the government has taken steps to support those who do inter-caste marriage. Henceforth, a special cell will be established in each district and police commissionerate for inter-caste marriages. (Inter Caste Marriage)

The Home Department of the Government of Maharashtra has taken this step as per the directions of the Supreme Court. Shakti Vahini had filed a petition in Supreme Court in 2010 regarding honor killing and khap panchayat. Accordingly, on 27 March 2018, the Supreme Court passed orders. In paragraph number 53 of this order, instructions have been given regarding the action to be taken by the central government and the concerned state government. Accordingly, a cell will be established in every district and police commissionerate in the case of harassment and intimidation of inter-caste marriages. This special cell will include the District Superintendent of Police and the District Social Welfare Officer at the district level, while the Office of the Commissioner of Police will include the District Social Welfare Officer along with them. The Superintendent of Police and Police Commissioner will be the head of this cell. (Inter Caste Marriage)

“If such a cell is to be established and complaints are handled directly by the District Police Chief, then this is a very good thing. Due to this, it is expected that at least inter-caste married couples will get less trouble from parents, relatives and society,” social worker Tanuja Shipurkar gave a reaction.
