The civic body had faced flak over the poor condition of storm water drains and roads which led to widespread flooding in many areas of the city. Majority of the citizens had pulled up the PMC for the poor quality of works. Hence, Municipal Commissioner Vikram Kumar conducted a review of the monsoon-related works on Thursday. Eighty per cent of road repair works have been carried out and 26 per cent work of cleaning of nalas and storm water drains has been completed. After cleaning of stormwater drains, the garbage is being immediately carried away, he said.

While giving permission for digging of roads for laying of cable and service lines, orders have been issued to scientifically repair the roads dug before May 31. Action will taken against officials and contractors who violate these orders, Vikram Kumar said. For essential works like MNGL, water pipeline and MSEDCL, permission has been given for digging till May 10.

Drainage line work of ₹385 crores are underway at present in newly merged villages. At some places, pipe lines have to be placed on private land and the owners are opposing this. In these case, senior civic officials will request land owners to cooperate and give permission for laying of pipelines. However, if the opposition continues, then the PMC will approach the courts and carry out the drainage line works, Vikram Kumar said.
