Om blood bank slapped notice by FDA

PUNE : NPNEWS NETWORK – After giving blood bag with expiry label, one more violation have come into light by Om blood bank. Despite having collected the blood on 22th September, the bank mentioned that it was collected on 29th September. Taking serious note of the fact, Food Drug and Administration (FDA) has slapped a notice to the bank.
A written complaint have given by Yogesh Lasure, resident of Hadapsar in this regard to FDA on Friday. According to complaint Lasure’s wife have been admitted in a private hospital at Bhavani peth for viral fever treatment. He needed a bag of blood so he went to Om blood bank. The bank gave him required blood bag and Lasure rushed to hospital. The doctor saw the label and was shocked after finding expiry date 10th October on it. The doctor then refused to give blood to the patient.

Then Lasure gave written complaint to FDA office. Then two FDA inspector inquired the blood bank. “The blood bag label had mentioned blood collection date 29th September and expiry date 10th October. When we go through the all records with the bank it was found that blood was collected on 22nd September and the bank had wrongly mentioned date of 29th September. As per record blood was about to expire on 3rd November. But bank ” said Vidyadhar Jawadekar, joint commissioner FDA (drug). This is gross negligence by bank and we have sent show cause notice to the bank, said Jawadekar.
