Mumbai mayor fined for car in no-parking zone

NPnews24 Online Mumbai: According to an official, Mumbai Mayor Vishwanath Mahadeshwar was fined by the traffic police on Monday after his official car was found to be parked in a no-parking zone in the city.

The traffic police issued a challan over the same. The official informed that the mayor’s car was parked in Vile Parle area. BMC’s no parking signboard was right above the vehicle, he added. The mayor was visiting Koldongari area in Vile Parle.

The mayor’s vehicle was spotted outside a popular fish food joint between Andheri and Vile Parle, the official stated.

The official said, “The food place is at a narrow and congested road and it has been declared a no-parking zone.”
Taking serious cognisance of the violation, the traffic police issued a challan to the mayor’s vehicle, said a senior police official.
However, the fine amount was not known. A challan refers to the receipt for fine recovered for traffic rule violation.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has begun a drive against unauthorised parking since last few days and has collected lakh of rupees in fine.

The official informed that the BMC has been imposing hefty fines on vehicles parked within a 500-metre radius of 29 authorised public parking lots in the city.
