Ms Plus Size India 2019 illuminates body positivity

Npnews24 Online New Delhi: The grand finale of ‘Ms Plus Size India 2019’, India’s widely acclaimed beauty pageant, was organised by Daksha Digitas, one of the nation’s leading digital marketing agencies, and RedNWhite Technologies, held at The Lalit Hotel, Connaught Place, New Delhi.

Anwesa Ray Mukhopadhyay from Barrackpore, who currently lives in Kolkata, has won the pageant, given her consistent, spectacular performance throughout the rounds.

Janette Tirke and Ruchira Bhattacharya (Tie) was the first runner up, whereas Silkesha came as the second runner up.

The winner bagged the ‘Ms Plus Size India 2019’ winner trophy and the runner-ups walked away with 1st runner up and 2nd runner up trophies.

Television actor and anchor Aman Verma hosted the grand evening, whereas Mona Varonica Campbell, the first trans-plus-size supermodel, RJ Meenakshi, India’s No 1 RJ from 94.3 My FM and supermodel diva Mugdha Godse chaired the jury of Ms Plus Size India 2019.

The event was also graced by Bishamber Das, Brand Ambassador and first British Asian plus-size Model and Payal Soni, a plus size supermodel from Mumbai.

The highly anticipated show was dedicated to popularising the whole idea of body positivity, besides unleashing the unbeatable potential that full-figured women hold within.

By providing plus size women a national platform to showcase their talents and qualities, Ms Plus Size India 2019 encourages women to be comfortable with their body shapes, sizes and skin.

“In a progressive society like ours, we must break free from the shallow beauty standards that slender waist and fair skin make women truly beautiful. This is the time when we must strive to build a society where human bodies are celebrated the way they are, in the very raw form. Through this show, we would like to encourage women in the direction of self-acceptance and self-love. There’s no need to starve or exert yourself just to fit into standards that society has set for you. All you must care for is the health of your body. If you are healthy from within, the external looks do not really matter” said Ashwani Kansal, Director of Ms Plus Size India.

It was the first time that Daksha Digitas and RedNWhite Technologies brought the unique runway show to Delhi with an aim to empower women from all walks of life to transcend the age-old boundaries and stereotypes related to attractive or beautiful women. Earlier, it held shows in Mumbai.

“Body shaming has always been a bane to the women. Be it on social media or in a family gathering, we see plus size being criticised, neglected, and what not. We endeavour to empower them and make them feel strong and comfortable in their bodies. The most talented women hide behind the curtains because of their body shape—either they are full-figured or thin. So, the movement needs to be waged against body shaming and this will start plus-size ladies to accept themselves and come forward. Showing up who you are, confidently, in front of the world is the very first step towards it” said Binod Kumar, CEO of Daksha Digitas.

Ms Plus Size India 2019 garnered an overwhelming response from Delhi, Bangalore, Chandigarh, Kolkata, Mumbai and Chennai as the total entries received for the show crossed the 60,000-mark. Girls in their early 20s to women in their late 50s to transgenders, all participants exemplified great enthusiasm and spirit. However, only 55 ladies made it up to the finale.
