Man cheats woman of ₹85,000 under the guise of Facebook friend
Pune : NpNews24 Online – Pune Crime News | A person called up a woman by giving a reference of a Facebook friend and said that he wanted to sell furniture at a cheap price. He told the woman that he was bringing furniture and a two-wheeler and cheated her of ₹85,000. When the woman’s Facebook friend told her that his account had been hacked and he did not know such a person, the woman realised that she had been cheated. (Pune Crime News)
A 45-year-old woman staying in Vadgaon Budruk has lodged a complaint. When the complainant was doing social work in Lonikand, she got acquainted with Pratap Mankar. They got connected via FaceBook. He used to send messages to her on WhatsApp. One day, she again got a friend request from Pratap Mankar. The person took her mobile number.
He informed that he was Pratap Mankar’s friend Ashishkumar and he was working as a jawan with CRPF. He told her that he had been transferred to Jammu and wanted to sell his furniture. When the complainant sent a message to Mankar whether she should call him. She got a reply that he was busy and his friend will call her on WhatsApp. After some time, she received a WhatsApp call and sent photos of the furniture. She liked the furniture. He told her to send ₹85, 000 and he would send a truck with the furniture.
The complainant, without speaking to Mankar and not having received the furniture, sent ₹85, 000 to him. She waited for a long time for the furniture and scooty to arrive but it did not arrive. On the next day, when she informed Mankar, he told her that his Facebook account had been hacked and he did not know any Ashishkumar.
After she realised that she had been cheated, she lodged a complaint with the Pune cyber police.
