Major shake-up in Pune police force soon, assessment going on: Chandrakant Patil

District Guardian Minister Chandrakant Patil, while talking to the media on Monday, hinted at this. He said that the Commissioner of Police (CP) would make a plan considering the usefulness of police personnel and officers posted at various police stations in the city. An assessment has begun as to which officer will be useful at which place to curb crime and arrest criminals. In the past few days, gangsters have been wreaking havoc in some parts of the city. In this regard, cases have been registered at the respective police stations. Criminals have also been arrested in registered offences. Just two days ago, two groups of gangsters clashed in Uttamnagar area. Sickles, tiles and stones were used as weapons. All senior police officers were engaged in the Bhima-Koregaon bandobast when this incident took place. However, Pune CP Retesh Kumaarr immediately dispatched DCP (Zone-3) Suhail Sharma to the spot, said Patil.

It is clear from the statistics that there has been a tremendous increase in crime in Pune. After comparing the crimes committed and resolved between 2021 and 2022, the year 2022 shows an increase in murder, attempt to murder, fraud, violence against women and vehicle thefts in the city. Street crimes have also grown tremendously. In recent times, juveniles were also seen committing serious crimes on a large scale. The Pune Police are currently making an action plan to curb crime and keep minors away from crime. The situation in the precincts of several A-grade police stations in the city is appalling.

Illegal businesses must be curbed
It is observed that illegal businesses are running openly at many places of the city. There are also instances where illegal vendors set up shops again after police action. Strict action should be taken against all the illegal classes in the city before the complete elimination of crime. But forget about taking action, the ‘vasuli bhai’s who encourage them are active at every police station. Some police officers have appointed not one but two such persons to look after their work. Illegal businesses are running openly in the major suburbs of the city. Currently, there is a huge demand for spa and massage parlors in Pune. ‘Vasuli Bhai’s of the local police station and the person in-charge of the crime branch are managing such businesses.

Many police inspectors benefiting and some

Some Inspectors of Pune City Police Force have been working on executive posting i.e. in-charge of A Grade Police Stations for the last 4-5 years. Several serious incidents have also happened within the respective police station limits while the sickle gangs have also been active in the limits of some major suburbs of the city. As problems faced by citizens were not solved by the police, sometimes hundreds of activists thronged the police station.

Citizens give details to the city control room about illegal activities. Then the CRO or concerned police officer tells the officer in-charge of that police station. Even after that the senior police inspector of the police station concerned does not take action. Moreover, the control room does not receive the report of the action that has been asked to take against illegal businesses.

Crime branch is no longer a side posting

Traffic Branch, Special Branch, Economic Offenses and Crime Branch were seen as side postings. However, nowadays, there is a lot of competition between police officers and police personnel to get appointed at the Pune Police Crime Branch. Many officers and employees are feeling very blessed to work in the social security branch. Some police inspectors in the crime branch are busy only investigating. In a branch which is expected to perform major duties like to eradicate crime syndicates, deter criminals, it is heard that only applications and inquiries are being done. There are examples of such operations going on.

The Police Commissioner will have to pay attention to the crime branch as well.
