MahaMetro transplants 430 trees

The Maharashtra Rail Corporation Ltd (MahaMetro) completed transplantation of 430 trees till now, by successfully transplanting a batch of 24 trees in Kasarwadi area of Pimpri-Chinchwad. As these trees were in the way Metro route. This was one of the initiatives taken by MahaMetro for eco-friendly development.  The Maharashtra Rail Corporation has transplanted total 430 trees till now in a similar way.

An official from Maharashtra Rail Corporation Ltd said, “For preserving the environment, We are doing our best. We try to avoid cutting down trees but at some places, we don’t have option thus we shift the trees. The metro work is at full speed in the area near Nashik Phata on the Pimpri- Stargate of the metro corridor .”

The transplanted trees were very big in size, around 3.5 m in diameter and the roots of the trees were 7 to 8 feet underground. These trees’ age was around 30 to 40 years. Thus, these trees were lifted by huge cranes and JCB. Nowadays. The work of metro is the project going very fast in Pune City.

MahaMetro had informed that more than 680 trees will have to relocate as they are in the route of the metro.

Environmental consciousness:

The MahaMetro transplanting as many trees as possible and transplanting it in other areas of the city is a big task. MahaMetro is trying to cut trees only when there is no option. As well as MahaMetro is trying their best to do the replantation of the trees. Scientific methods are used to keep these tree alive and water is splashed on trunks and other parts of the tree.

Along with the transplanting the existing trees, MahaMetro also plating new trees. Maha Metro has already planted 1000 trees this year and it has the target of planting of  4000 trees. MahaMetro chose Talaji hills as the spot for planting trees where maximum people come for morning walk daily.
