Jharkhand passed 10 per cent reservation for poor

NPnews24 Online, Ranchi: Jharkhand has passed a bill with 10 per cent reservation for the common man of the poor in the assembly. The Jharkhand assembly gave its nod to the ‘Reservation Amendment’ in Jharkhand posts and vacancies of service act 2019.

The bill was passed by voice vote in the state assembly this afternoon amid a boycott by the main opposition Jharkhand Mukti Morcha. Congress opposed the Bill saying that three per cent of the total people in the state are general people and therefore, the provision of 10 per cent reservation is unfair for them.

Former State Congress President and MLA from Lohardaga, Sukhdev Bhagat, while introducing an amendment in the House, said that reservation for backward classes should be increased first in the state as they are 53 per cent in the state. He claimed that there are only three per cent of the general categories in the state and therefore it is unfair to give them 10 per cent reservation on economic grounds. The House later approved the bill by voice vote.
