International Youth Day 2018: Where is the Indian Youth heading?

International Youth Day (IYD) is an awareness day started by the United Nations. The purpose of the day is to draw attention to a given set of cultural and legal issues surrounding youth. The first International Youth Day was observed on 12 August 2000.

It is meant as an opportunity for governments and others to draw attention to youth issues worldwide. During IYD, concerts, workshops, cultural events, and meetings involving national and local government officials and youth organizations take place around the world.

Different slogans are used every year for International Youth Day, for 2018 the slogan decided by United Nation Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA) is “Safe space for Youth”.

In India, as per 2017 statistics, out of the total population, more than half are youth. It is said that the country having the most number of the young population leads the world.

There are many problems in front of youth like employment is one of it. Thus almost every state, every community youth are asking for the reservation. Thinking that they will get job opportunity is they are given reservation. But thinking ahead of time, some of the youth have decided to “ Give Jobs Rather than Take one”.

NP News on the special occasion of International Youth day had an interaction with some of the big entrepreneurs from the Pune city.

Let us see what these young businessmen who chose business over the job, has to say.

Deepak Mohite who has MBA started a business in the clothing industry 2years back. He named his shop “Wild Swag”. He while talking about his successful business said, “ In business, you can multiply money. From one shop I have increased my outlets to 5 shops, that too in just 2 years. Now my turn over is more than 3 crore. Then, the feeling of being self-employed is really good and I personally like working for myself.

Sarvesh Chandak who is carrying his family business ahead said about his company Chandak Foods. “ We have more than 40 food products in the market right now. I am a B com Graduate but still, I choose to be a businessman as I get to showcase my innovation. Turnover of my company is around 1 crore and I enjoy my work. I will try to grow my family business in every aspect.”

Sagar Sarda, Master in Construction Management, who has started his own company name ‘Turn Key’. After taking 2 years’ experience in the field in the USA, he started his own business and has been 7 years that he is running the business successfully. He said, “ It’s not that I didn’t like doing the job, but I always wanted to do business. My business’s turnover is more than 15 crores.”

Mould dust India Limited’s owner Rahul Bhutada, who is in the business of manufacturing, the hood of auto rickshaw. He said, “ I have done M.CM, but since last 20 years we were in this business. I always wanted to do business only. With dedicated work, my business’s turnover has become more than 50 crores.”
