The accused PSI Bharat Tanu Tambitkar (57) of Highway police had asked for a bribe to help complainant’s truck pass the ghat section of the Pune-Mumbai highway.

ACB officials said that most government employees have started taking bribe after office hours. But in this case, it was around 3.40 am when the officials laid a trap and caught the accused red-handed while accepting the bribe.

The complainant is from Thane and he has transport business. After being harassed by the police officer for taking action against his trucks, he lodged a complaint with the ACB, Pune unit. Accordingly, a team led by DySP Suhas Nadgouda from Pune reached the Khandala around 3 am. They verified the complaint on the road itself. The accused reached at a spot between Lonavala and Khandala to accept Rs 32,000. The ACB sleuths caught him red-handed while accepting the bribe.

Sandip Diwan, superintendent of police (SP), ACB, Pune range, supervised the team which included head constable Karandikar, constables Krishna Kurhe and Kiran Chimate.

ACB has appealed people to contact them if any government employee demands a bribe for any work.

There have been demands from everyone to take action against heavy vehicles including trucks, containers for not following lane discipline on the highway, Expressway, which has led to several accidents and claimed lives of people. The allegations that highway police officials often take a bribe for not taking action against such vehicles and the ACB action has proved it once again.
