Man tries to set wife on fire after she filed divorce case over his alcoholism

Pune – In a shocking incident, a woman who was frustrated with her husband’s alcoholism and wanted the divorce, was set on fire by the husband. But she survived.

The incident took place at a school in Narhe where she is a primary teacher.

Based on the statement of the woman Asha Santosh Chavan (38), Sinhgad road police station under Pune city police has registered the attempt to murder case against her husband Santosh Namdev Chavan.

According to police, her husband used to beat her after drinking and also used to snatch away her money. After fed up his harassment, she filed a divorce case against him in the court.

Around 2.45 pm on Friday, the accused had the argument over the divorce issue. He wanted to compromise and wanted her to withdraw the case but she had not gone to court. The man went to the school and poured petrol and attempted to set her on fire but she ran away and the burning matchstick missed her.
