Disney releases trailer for live action movie Mulan during World Cup

NPnews24 Online New York: Disney Studios has released its first trailer for the forthcoming live-action film ‘Mulan’. The teaser aired during Sunday’s USA-Netherlands Women’s World Cup soccer match and posted on Twitter.

The film is directed by Niki Caro. The movie is based on the Chinese legend of Hua Mulan.   The clip begins with Mulan’s parents discussing her matchmaking prospects.

“The matchmaker has found you an auspicious match,” her mother said. Mulan responds, “Yes, I will bring honour to us all.”

This is followed by actress Liu Yifei as Mulan showed off her sword-fighting skills. The Chinese-American actress is seen disguising herself as a warrior to save her father from joining the Chinese military.

Mulan also stars Donnie Yen as Commander Tung, Jason Scott Lee as Böri Khan, Yoson An as Cheng Honghui and Gong Li as Xianniang.  Absent from the trailer is the animal duo dragon Mushu and cricket Cri-kee.

The trailer ends with the badass protagonist saying, “It is my duty to fight.”  The live-action remake is set to hit theatres on March 27, 2020.

The movie is an epic journey that will transform Mulan into an honoured warrior and earn her the respect of a grateful nation and a proud father.

Though the teaser doesn’t feature any musical or fantastical elements of the original animated film, it does give a nod to the iconic ‘Honor to Us All’ song by playing a few notes of the track over Mulan’s scene with her family.
