Crimes Against Women Soar in Pune: Two Separate Incidents of Molestation and Domestic Violence Registered on Tuesday

Pune: Pune city witnessed two disturbing incidents of crimes against women yesterday, triggering concern and raising questions about the safety of women within city limits.

In the first incident, a 32-year-old married woman filed a complaint against the accused for allegedly chasing and molesting her. This incident was going on between June 2022 and January 5, 2024, in Indiranagar, Gultekdi area.

In this regard, the plaintiff woman filed a complaint against the accused, Khaja Hussain Parande, 48, a resident of Gultekdi, at Swargate Police Station on Tuesday. Accordingly, police booked the accused under IPC 354d, 427, 504, and 506 and apprehended him immediately.

The accused and the married woman have been known to each other, as they both reside in the same area. The woman complained that the man had been chasing her for the past few months. One day, he proposed to her for marriage, in spite of having a clear idea of her marital status. When the woman refused his request for marriage, she complained that the accused purportedly threatened her.

She added that the accused further threatened her, saying if she would not marry him, he would not let her live peacefully. He also threatened to harm her daughters if she did not listen to him. The female police sub-inspector, Patil, is conducting further investigation in this regard.

In a separate incident, another woman living in Dhayari committed suicide by consuming poisonous medicine after being tired of constant harassment by her in-laws. This incident took place in a residential society in Dhayari.

In this case, a complaint has been registered against the husband, mother-in-law, and father-in-law at the Sinhagad Road police station. As per the information, the woman’s in-laws were constantly beating her and harassing her for various domestic reasons.

Fed up with this daily domestic violence, the victim woman decided to end her life by drinking insecticide. Therefore, a case has been registered against the accused for abetment to suicide and mental and physical torture of the woman.
