Pune: Facebook Friendship Turns Phoney; Young Man from Satara Raped 20-Year-Old Girl Cajoling Fake Marriage Promise

Pune: A shocking incident involving the rape of a 20-year-old girl resurfaced in the Mundhwa area. In this regard, a complaint has been registered against a young man at Mundhwa police station on Tuesday, February 6.

Pune police informed that this incident has happened in different locations of Pune city, including Wanwadi, Lonavala, Wadki, Hadapsar, Koregaon Park, etc., during the period of 2016 to January 28, 2024.

On Tuesday, the victim girl living in Ghorpadi village filed a complaint against the accused at Mundhwa police station. As per the information, the accused is identified as Chetan Chander Muttal, 22, and he is a resident of Muttalwadi village in Patan taluka of Satara District. After the filing of a complaint by the victim girl, police launched an investigation to arrest the accused, booking him immediately under IPC sections 376 and 376/2/N.

The incident initially began in 2016, when the accused and the plaintiff girl initially met on Facebook. After their initial acquaintance with each other, they both started talking to each other. Through this chatting, the accused falsely proposed to the girl for marriage and fell her into his love trap.

After this, he repeatedly came to Pune and established physical relations with the girl by taking her to various lodges in the city. The girl initially kept quiet, as the accused was consistently giving her assurance of a marriage. However, in a change of events a few days ago, the accused backtracked on his promise and refused the girl for marriage.

Feeling distressed and cheated, the victim girl rushed to the Mundhwa police station and lodged a complaint against the accused. Further investigation is being conducted by the Sub-Inspector of Police, Binawade.
