CME Marathon as part of platinum jubilee celebration

College of Military Engineering (CME) at Pune is a premier Army establishment of the Corps of Engineers. The College, established in 1943, is celebrating its 75^thyear (Platinum Jubilee) in September this year. As part of these Celebrations, CME organized a Lake Marathon on September 2, morning within its campus full of lush green, serene and breathtaking surroundings. It was participated by more than 2200 military and civil enthusiast runners from all walks of life in and around Pune.

The Marathon was conducted inside CME’s safe, traffic free and clean campus, in two age groups of over & under 40 years with the distance of 10 Kms and 21.1 Kms in both categories. A ‘Run for Fun’ for children below 12 years was also organized.

The event saw stupendous participation, with registrations filling up much before the Marathon day, signifying how keen the Pune residents were to run inside the sprawling CME campus. Approximately 1500 civilians took part in the Marathon. The balance 700 participants represented the Military organizations like CME Dapodi, Bombay Engineer Group, Kirkee, National Defence Academy, Khadakwasla, Indian Navy Shivaji Lonavala, Army Sports Institute Ghorpuri and others Army establishments in and around Pune.

This Marathon stage was also a perfect occasion for all Puneites’ to felicitate the seven Rowing Medal Winners of the ongoing Jakarta Palembang 2018 Asian Games in Indonesia, for the glory that they have brought to our country and to themselves

Lieutenant General Michael Mathews, VSM**, Commandant, College of Military Engineering who flagged off the run was himself part of the 10 Km Race. Lieutenant General Manoj Pande, AVSM, VSM, Chief of Staff Headquarter Southern Command, Major General HK Arora, Deputy Commandant & Dean and other Senior Officers from College of Military Engineering also participated in the run.
