Badaun Gangrape Case : Main accused arrested

New Delhi : In the case of murder of a woman after gang rape in Ughaiti of Badaun, the main accused absconding priest was arrested by the police with the help of villagers on Thursday night. The priest was hiding in a woman’s house in Mewali village of Ughaiti.

50-year-old Anganwadi Sahayika was murdered after the gang-rape in Ughaiti police station area of Badaun on 3 January. The postmortem report found evidence of Nirbhaya-like torture with the woman. There was a case of inserting something like a rod in her genitals. Her left rib, left leg and left lung were also damaged with a heavy weight object. The woman had severe wounds in her private part.

The report also showed that an iron rod or crowbar was inserted in the genitals. The officers were shocked to see the postmortem report. Following the post-mortem report, the Ughaiti police had registered a case of rape and murder against Mahant Satyanarayana Das of Dharmasthala, his associates Vedram and Yashpal. Vedram and Yashpal were arrested and sent to jail. A reward of 50 thousand was announced on absconding Mahant Satyanarayana Das.
A search was on to nab the main accused. The Badaun police had blocked the entire Ughaiti area.

Around 10 pm on Thursday night, people of Mewali village came to know about a person hiding in a woman’s house. When the villagers went to the house and asked the woman, she refused. Some people informed the police when they had a doubt.

Special team of ADG also reached the village. Police of SSP Badaun Ughaiti police station also arrived there. Meanwhile, people entered the woman’s house. Seeing the crowd, the priest tried to run away. Meanwhile, the villagers and the police caught him.
