Baba Bhide Bridge will be demolished under Riverfront Development Project

Pune : NpNews24 Online The Mula-Mutha Riverfront Development Project has been launched. Under this ambitious project, the causeway, Baba Bhide Bridge, joining Narayan Peth to Deccan Gymkhana will be razed.

 

Both banks of the river will be developed as part of environment preservation plan. The road along the river from Jayantrao Tilak Bridge in front of the PMC building to Mhatre Bridge will also be removed. This will hit commuters from Kothrud, Sinhagad road and Warje.

 

The civic administration has promised to make an alternative route available. Traffic on Bhide Bridge will be diverted.

 

The riverfront development plan is estimated to cost around Rs 5,000 crore. It will be developed in 11 phases. Work has been started from Sangamwadi to Bund Garden and from Bund Garden to Mundhwa at the cost of Rs 351 crore and Rs 600 crore, respectively.

 

Municipal Commissioner Vikram Kumar said the causeways will be closed for the project work. However, alternative roads will be developed so that residents in those areas are not inconvenienced.
