API transferred for not registering molestation case even after woman waited for 4 hours

The insensitivity attitude of the Hinjewadi police have come out in the case of molestation of a young woman in the IT Park. The cops didn’t register the case and also asked the woman to nab the accused.

Taking stern action, Pimpri-Chinchwad police commissioner RK Padmanabhan transferred the erring assistant police inspector (API) Balbhim Nanaware to control room for not registering the case. An enquiry is also being conducted against other police officers involved at the Hinjewadi police station.

According to the information received, a young woman working in the Hinjewadi IT Park returned from her job in the wee hours on September 9 to her hostel. She was going to put clothes in the washing machine when youth who had illegally entered the hostel, molested her. The accused was also caught on CCTV camera footage. When the woman complained to police they asked her to alert them when accused is seen. A shopkeeper had identified him to be a resident of the same area. When the accused was seen on the next day, police were informed. However, they didn’t come and asked the woman to nab him. When the woman went to the police station to file a case, she was made to wait for about four hours but the molestation case was not registered.

The woman complained to the Police Commissioner Padmanabhan who contacted her and ordered registration of the case. The FIR was finally registered on Tuesday.
