Inquiry ordered against woman IPS officer for Anti-Dalit statement

Mumbai: NP NEWS 24 ONLINE- In a video which is going viral on social media, a woman IPS officer Bhagyashree Navtakke of Majalgaon in Beed district has allegedly made anti-Dalit statement.

This statement has led to outrage of the Dalit community and they are demanding action against her. The video shows her confessing about the ways in which she used to beat Dalits and Muslims in false cases.

Beed district Superintendent of Police Shridhar Govindarajan ordered an inquiry against the IPS officer following complaint of local Dalit organization in the case. Bahujan Vikas Morcha president Baburao Potbhare has warned that he would go to court if the case is not filed against her by Monday.

Marathas and Dalits have been mentioned in this video clip of Navtakke. In this regard, Baburao Potbhare has demanded to file a complaint against Bhagyashree Navtakke under Atrocity Act. He has also demanded to suspend her from police service.

In the viral Video, Majalgaon’s woman Deputy Superintendent of police, Bhagyashree Navtakke is seen in a discussion with some members of the Maratha community. Members of the Maratha community had met her to get help in cases filed under the Atrocity Act.

“When they brought you in front of me, I could not do anything because of other police officers. You were requesting me, but at the time if I had stopped them, they would have raised objection. The message would have been spread as such that since I am a Maratha, I was helping you”, said Bhagyashree Navtakke in the video.

She further said that, “In the last six months, they have seen how I used to beat 21 Dalits and Muslims specially to spread a message that ‘Madam’ (I) would not leave anyone, under section 307 (attempt to murder) of the Indian Penal Code. You don’t know how we used to beat Dalits by tying their legs and hands”.
