Ajit Pawar | Allegations and New Beginnings: Key Figures in Maharashtra’s Government Formation
Pune : Ajit Pawar | The political landscape in Maharashtra has once again witnessed a significant development as Ajit Pawar, the nephew of NCP president Sharad Pawar and a prominent state leader, joined the government in alliance with the BJP and Shiv Sena. Taking the oath as Deputy Chief Minister, Pawar was accompanied by eight senior leaders who were also given ministerial posts. Notable figures such as Chhagan Bhujbal, Dilip Valse Patil, Hasan Mushrif, Dhananjay Munde, and others, known for their close association with Sharad Pawar, joined the government in a move that has reshaped the state’s political dynamics.
Ajit Pawar, who represents Baramati, has now assumed the role of Deputy Chief Minister for the third time in the past four years. Notably, he briefly held the position for only 80 hours in 2019. Subsequently, he served as Deputy Chief Minister during the Maha Vikas Aghadi government, and now he has once again taken on the role. However, Ajit Pawar has faced allegations of irregularities in a loan scam involving the Maharashtra State Cooperative Bank, as well as involvement in the irrigation scam.
Other leaders who have joined the government alongside Ajit Pawar include Chhagan Bhujbal, who hails from Nashik’s Yewla constituency and has served as Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra. Bhujbal has faced allegations of involvement in a scam related to a 2006 contract awarding worth 100 crores. Hasan Mushrif, representing Kagal in Kolhapur, is an influential Muslim face within the Nationalist Party and has been accused in a scam related to the Sarsenapati Santaji Ghorpade Sugar Factory. Dilip Walse Patil, a seven-time MLA known for his proximity to Sharad Pawar, and Dhananjay Munde, a loyalist of Ajit Pawar and nephew of BJP leader Gopinath Munde, have also taken ministerial roles in the government.
Furthermore, Aditi Tatkare, daughter of NCP MP Sunil Tatkare and representing Raigad, has become the first woman minister in the government. Having been elected as an MLA for the first time in 2019, she held multiple departments in Uddhav Thackeray’s government. Sanjay Bansode, elected from Udgir in Latur, is a first-time MLA considered close to Ajit Pawar. Dharam Rao Atram, a prominent leader of the tribal community, represents Aheri in Gadchiroli district, while Anil Patil is an MLA from Amalner in Jalgaon. These new additions to the government have the potential to reshape Maharashtra’s political landscape and influence the state’s future trajectory.
