3,000 diamonds worth Rs 48 lakh seized at Lohegaon airport

Pune : NpNews24 Online – Pune Crime | The Air Intelligence Unit of the Customs Department acted against air passengers from Sharjah and confiscated 3,000 diamonds from their possession. (Pune Crime)

The diamonds are valued at Rs 48.66 lakh. Many incidents of smuggling of gold from Abu Dhabi and Sharjah to Pune were reported in the past. However, this is the first incident of diamond smuggling at the airport.

The passenger found with the smuggled diamond landed in Pune from Sharjah. The passengers from Sharjah were checked thoroughly when the diamonds were found hidden in a pouch of trousers in the luggage. The 75 carat diamonds cost around Rs 48.66 lakh. The passenger has been arrested and an investigation is underway.
