2018 observes major switchover in ‘fashion industry’

TANUSHREE PODDAR: NP NEWS 24 ONLINE-   With the market flooded with luxury labels from fashion veterans and up-and-comers, it’s always nice when a familiar face from the back home stands out in a crowd. With Hollywood celebrities flaunting outfits by Indian home-grown designers and Bollywood celebs in customized attires crafted by American and European designers, fashion definitely has overtaken boundaries in 2018.

Kim Kardashian flaunted a traditional Indian saree for her Vogue photo shoot in a scarlet sequin saree ‘Akash Tara’ and Oprah Winfrey chose velvet kaftan from Sabyasachi Mukherjee’s collection.

To give a connection and edge over the usual travelers, international celebrities are seen wearing Indian designer while they visit India. Recently, for Isha Ambani’s pre-wedding celebration Hilary Clinton and Beyoncé wore Abu Jani and Sandeep Kosala couture.

On the other side, Bodak Yellow rapper, Cardi-B was dripping sparkling gold and crystals from head to toe dress designed by Abu Jani and Sandeep Kosala for Entertainment weekly cover.

This year was not only about designer wears but also about the relationship between designer and their muse. Ralph Lauren who played cupid between Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas in Met Gala 2018, personally went to Priyanka with his sketches to be a part of her D-day and weave magic with his design for her wedding outfit. Surprisingly, Lauren broke this personal rule of not designing wedding outfits. Lauren previously has designed wedding gowns for his daughter, daughter-in-law, and nieces.

Moving over from actors and singer, Bidhu Mohapatra’s collection was worn by former American First lady Michelle Obama and Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton.

Another designer, overseas who ruled the international headline were Falguni-Shane Peacock. The duo dressed Beyoncé for the extravagant 2018 Wearable Art Gala. Inspired by Amanishakheto, the warrior queen of Wakanda showcased in the movie Black Panther which took about 35 workers to craft the 11-foot-long 3-D train of a bronze gown. Formerly, Jenifer Lopez, Paris Hilton, Lady Gaga, Kerry Washington, Fergie have worn their unique collection.

Manish Arora’s color palette is completely in sync with the vibrancy of India. Arora has positioned his label as an international one and being a regular at Paris Fashion Week. He recently designed quirky outfits for Nicki Minaj, Katy Perry, Heidi Klum.
