Flood control of Krishna, Panchganga, take measures to prevent pollution

Mumbai :  NpNews24 Online  – CM Eknath Shinde On Kolhapur | Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde today directed the water resources department to initiate immediate steps to desilt the Krishna and Panchganga river basins in order to reduce the intensity of floods in Kolhapur, Sangli district. Shri Shinde also ordered immediate action to prevent pollution of the Panchganga river as well as setting up of sewage treatment plants and other comprehensive measures on a war footing. The Chief Minister separately also directed action regarding the provision of contribution for the new municipal hall for the Ichalkaranji Municipal Corporation while immediately sanctioning a fund of Rs.100 crore for the road projects in Kolhapur city.

 

Chief Minister Shri. Shinde was speaking at a meeting at the Sahyadri State Guest House here that he chaired. Kolhapur District Guardian Minister Deepak Kesarkar, Higher and Technical Education Minister Chandrakantdada Patil, Industries Minister Uday Samant, Public Works Minister Ravindra Chavan, MP Darhysheel Mane, MP Prof. Sanjay Mandlik, MLA Prakash Awade, MLA Prakash Abitkar, MLA Sudhir Gadgil, former MLA Chandradeep Narke along with senior officers from Ichalkaranji, members of the delegation from Hupari area, entrepreneurs associated with the textile sector were also present on the ocassion.

 

MP Shri. Mane and MP Prof. Mandalik raised various issues pending resolution in the Kolhapur Lok Sabha constituency. Information about various schemes required in the constituency area as well as necessary funds and actions needed for the memorial of Anna Bhau Sathe, a democrat from Valwa taluka were provided to the Chief Minister. Shri Mane thanked the Chief Minister for immediately sanctioning funds of Rs.25 crores for the memorial.

 

Chief Minister Shri. Shinde directed that the department should coordinate the measures to be taken to prevent the pollution of Panchganga river. “Consider the Process projects and other ancillary options to avoid pollution of the river under any circumstances. Ichalkaranji Municipal Corporation should submit a proposal for an increased capacity project for sewage treatment. In particular, water recycling projects should also be considered. Innovative options like bio toilets should also be adopted wherever possible. In particular, the villages where the process project is not possible, a plan should be prepared after surveying the villages,” Shri. Shinde ordered.

 

The meeting discussed the fact that the Panchganga and Krishna rivers experience extreme flood conditions every monsoon. Chief Minister Shri. Shinde directed that the water resources department should determine a strategy for removing silt from the river bed. “This will deepen and widen the river bed and also open the flow path. For this, the mechanical department of the water resources department and the private machinery owners who want to participate voluntarily should also participate. The procedure should also be fixed regarding the availability of diesel and funds for maintenance, repairs etc. For this, the principle of public participation of Jalyukta Shivar can also be adopted. Kolhapur Municipal Corporation should also submit a proposal regarding the funding of flood control measures. Such risk areas should be surveyed with the help of experts regarding landslides and landslides,” Shri.Shinde said.

 

The Chief Minister also directed the urban development department to take immediate action on the demand for the roads that were damaged due to floods witnessed in the Kolhapur and Ichalkaranji Municipal Corporation jurisdictions. The Chief Minister also directed to approve the proposal of Rs 100 crore for roads in Kolhapur city under Nagrotthan Yojana.

 

Various demands of Ichalkaranji Municipal Corporation were also discussed on this occasion. Rs. 60 crores have been given under Amrut 2 scheme for water supply schemes in Ichalkaranji. Apart from this, two proposals worth Rs 21 and Rs 16 crores respectively along with a Rs 22 crore project for CCTV installation was also approved by the Urban Development Department.

 

Chief Minister Shri. Shinde directed that a fresh proposal be submitted to the Ichalkaranji Municipal Corporation to get lump sum contribution. “A proposal should be given regarding the project of increased capacity to process the waste water of the city. A proposal should be submitted regarding space and funding for the Municipal Hall in Ichalkaranji. The Municipal Corporation has given approval for the plot of the court building in Ichalkaranji. The rest of the proceedings should be completed at the earliest,” Shri Shinde said.

 

Chief Minister Shri. Shinde also directed to speed up the process of transferring the land of Health and Agriculture Department at Shenda Park for administrative complex of Kolhapur district. “Regarding the flyover connecting Rajarampuri and central bus station area at Parikh Bridge on the railway line passing through Kolhapur city, the Municipal Corporation should also examine the feasibility and submit the project plan. Pursuit of the Bombay High Court’s demand, plans to start a circuit bench in Kolhapur is also currently underway,” the Chief Minister said adding that positive steps were being taken.
