Why Did China’s Military Commander Agree to Return to the April Position in Ladakh?

New Delhi : In a meeting of core commanders that lasted for about 11 hours on Monday, it was decided that the army of both India and China will return to their old positions. China has agreed to return to its old position. On behalf of India, China was told clearly that unless it goes back to the April 2020 position, the matter will not increase. After this, China agreed to peace. The Indian Army will also return to the old position.

India’s first demand was that the LAC in the Galvan Valley remain the status quo of April 2020. China should retreat where it was and China accepted this. India’s second demand was that China should remove all its recently built structures and take all its belongings and return to its base camp. China agreed to this as well.

India’s third demand was that Chinese soldiers on the Pangong Tso Lake should empty Finger Five. China’s Army Finger should go back towards its camp from 8. The matter is stuck on this and there will be talk again.

In this meeting, Lieutenant General Harinder Singh gave the 1962 map and the rest of the evidence. He reminded the 1996 and 2005 agreements and clearly stated that China would have to accept the status of April 2020. If Chinese soldiers showed aggression, attempted violence or bloodshed, they would get a more befitting reply in the same manner. It was agreed in the meeting that the disengagement action on LAC should continue. Along with this, there will be further talks on resolving the remaining issues on Eastern Ladakh and LAC.

All disputed issues were discussed one by one in the meeting. China was informed of its tactics through a powerpoint presentation. China was told that not only Ladakh but also from other places, including Sikkim on LAC, China will have to call back its force.

India’s position was also clear regarding Pangong Tso Lake in Ladakh. On behalf of the commander of India, it was said that until the Chinese army returns to its old position in the Pangong Tso area, the Indian army will stand in front of China with the same number of weapons. Usually the Indian Army stays behind Finger 4 and the Chinese Army behind Finger 8. But China Finger started claiming 5, so it was explained that it should return to its position then the situation will remain good. However, China has not made any direct commitment to this. Commanders of both armies will talk again about Finger 4 and Finger 5.
