Special voluntary retirement scheme for thirty thousand employees

Uran : The central government has taken the first step towards privatization of the port and a special voluntary retirement scheme (SVRS) has been implemented for about 30,000 employees in 11 government ports across the country. This includes 1473 JNPT workers. For this, the Secretary to the Central Government Rajiv Nayan has issued a written letter on November 12, 2020 for 11 government ports in the country.

Only workers who have been working in the port permanently for 10 years and 40 years are eligible for this scheme. Ports are not bound to provide jobs to the heirs of workers who take advantage of this scheme. The special voluntary retirement is for a period of six months. Therefore, it has made it mandatory for the workers to take notice three months in advance. Also, except for private ports or companies, workers taking SVRS will not get jobs in government ports. Various financial benefits will be provided for employees working for 10 years, up to 30 years.

This voluntary SVRS will provide more financial benefits to the workers who have worked in the port for 30 years. However, workers are saying that SVRS will be a financial loss for workers who have worked for less than 30 years.
