Solapur: Crime Branch arrests four for hacking Vice-Chancellor’s computer; increase marks of failed students

Solapur: Crime Branch arrested four including the Controller of Examination in connection with hacking the password of Vice Chancellor’s computer at Punyashlok Ahilya Devi Holkar Solapur University. The accused hacked the password and allegedly increased the marks of failed students. In this regard, 100 students have been identified and are likely to be charged as well.

The four accused have been identified as Director of the Board of Examinations and Assessment Shrikant Rajaram Kokare, Systems Analyst Prashant Raosaheb Chormule, e-facilities coordinator Hasan Mubarak Sheikh, and programmer Praveen Prakash Gaikwad. They have been remanded in police custody till January 22. Reportedly, students’ marks were being increased by hacking the master password to the vice-chancellor’s computer. According to the police investigation, a minimum of Rs 25,000 and a maximum of Rs 50,000 was being taken for one subject from students.

Vice-Chancellor Dr. Mrinalini Fadnavis said, “A committee was set up as I was accused. But the master password never reached me hence I never used it”.
