Sinhagad police arrests absconding accused after four years from Nepal border

Pune: Sinhagad Road police have arrested an absconding accused from Nepal border, the police said on Tuesday. The accused allegedly harassed his wife mentally and physically by demanding dowry, after which the wife died by suicide.

Samina Khatun and Salim Ansari, residents of Uttar Pradesh, had filed a complaint in this regard.

The accused Salim Tabarak Ansari (30), is a resident of Jungle Belwa, Padrauna Thane, Kushinagar, Uttar Pradesh.

Salim had been on a run for the past four years. The accused has now been remanded in police custody till February 25.

According to the police, the accused started demanding a motor cycle within three months of marriage. Tired of the constant harassment by her husband, the plaintiff’s daughter, Nasima died by suicide on April 14, 2016. A complaint was lodged in Uttar Pradesh but later shifted to Sinhagad Road police station for investigation.

Under the guidance of Senior Police Inspector Devidas Gheware of Sinhagad Road police station, Police Sub-Inspector Nitin Jadhav, Constable Mayur Patange and Constable Sandeep Pawar went to Uttar Pradesh with the help of technical assistance for 12 days and arrested the accused from the Nepal border. The accused was preparing to flee to Dubai when he was apprehended by the police.
